Diamond District Jewelers, Reputable Jewelers, White Gold Diamond Engagement Rings and more…
A few weeks ago on this blog we talked about White gold and its role in jewelry’s hottest new item, white gold diamond engagement rings. (View the previous post about white gold HERE). This week we’ll discuss other “unique” gold colors, such as rose, red, and pink gold.
These three colored gold’s – rose, red, and pink – are often names used interchangeably to define a gold and copper alloy combination. The addition of copper gives off a reddish color, which explains the names. Pure gold is yellow, while pure copper is red, so the more copper in the piece, the darker the coloration.
The difference between rose gold, red gold, and pink gold is the amount of copper present. Rose gold and pink gold are typically 75% gold and 25% copper. Red Gold is usually a 50-50 split between gold and copper.
Due to its popularity in Russia during the 19th century, the gold-and-copper alloy is often referred to as Russian Gold, a term that can be used for any and all of the different gold-color types.
While some are rarer than others, all of these multi-colored gold options are available for purchase on any jewelry store online, as well as in the shop of any reputable jewelers.
