Diamond District Jewelers, Reputable Jewelers, White Gold Diamond Engagement Rings and more…
I.D. Jewelry sells a lot of white gold jewelry, including white gold diamond engagement rings. If you are planning to buy or already own white gold jewelry, you should know that there is a specific method you must use to clean it.
White gold is always plated with rhodium, a hard, durable, silvery-white metal that can be polished to a high shine. This is what gives white gold its white shiny sheen as opposed to a very pale yellow, its actual color. Depending on how well you take care of the jewelry (whether you allow exposure to the elements and clean it regularly), this white look will last varying amounts of time. On earrings it can last a lifetime, but the rhodium is more likely to start wearing off on rings, especially where there is friction. This usually starts by the shank (the part of the ring that goes around the finger), which will start to “yellow.” This discoloration isn’t actually discoloration at all, but the rhodium wearing off to reveal the jewelry’s true color. As you continue to wear the ring, all the exposed edges and corners will start “yellowing” as well.
The easiest way to fix this is by having the white gold diamond engagement ring and other white gold jewelry re-rhodiumed at a jewelry dealer.
