A nice contrast to our news from last week, a Colorado couple were astonished when a man — an unemployed man, no less — returned their lost diamond engagement ring. Janis Ward took off the ring to put on hand lotion last February in an airport, and didn’t realize it had fallen from her lap until she and her husband Roger reached Miami.
Minneapolis architect Mark Epple, who had recently been laid off, found the ring that same day while at the airport with his wife, and assuming it was costume jewelry, pocketed it to worry about later. After taking a good look at it though, he realized it was real and contacted the airport, who put him in touch with the Wards. They described the ring to him and he sent it back via courier.
“”I travel all over the world. This is extraordinary. It never happens,” Roger said, who, along with his wife were stunned and overjoyed to get the diamond engagement ring back.
“I think most people would have done the same thing,” said Epple in response.
It just goes to show, sometimes you can think the best of people.
