Diamond District Jewelers, Reputable Jewelers, White Gold Diamond Engagement Rings and more…
There are some things you just don’t sell on Craigslist — diamond engagement rings, for example. A man in New York City learned that the hard way after posting a listing for a $30,000 diamond ring he bought for an engagement that later was broken.
The seller, David Cushman, and prospective buyer Gerald DeGerolamo had met four times before the attack to discuss the deal, and DeGerolamo showed no signs that he might get violent, though Cushman admitted to having suspicions about him after their last meeting. He said he was so desperate to get rid of the ring, though, that he decided to look past it, thinking it might give him closure over his broken engagement.
“He sprayed me with mace,” said Cushman last Monday at the trial of his attacker, Gerald DeGerolamo, who allegedly assaulted him in the West Village in December of 2009. Cushman testified that the defendant sprayed the entire bottle of mace, grabbed the ring box and pushed him down.
This isn’t the first time DeGerolamo has been accused of theft of jewelry posted on Craigslist. He allegedly swiped two diamond rings from a woman in the middle of a divorce.
Keep that in mind, everyone, if you’re considering selling a diamond engagement ring online. Look into reputable NYC jewelers and see if you can sell the jewelry to them.
