Diamond District Jewelers, Reputable Jewelers, White Gold Diamond Engagement Rings and more…
Today we’ll discuss one of my favorite gemstones, topaz. In its natural form, topaz is actually clear or translucent. Although blue topaz is the most common color used in jewelry, it also comes in orange, yellow, red, and pink colors. Blue topaz actually didn’t become popular until the past century and now it is one of the most frequently used gemstones. The orange/red imperial topaz is the most valuable color. Topaz’s abundance, hardness, and beautiful colors helped put it at the top of everyone’s jewelry wishlist.
Because it has a perfect cleavage, topaz is prone to chipping if banged hard enough, and that would require a pretty big bang. Blue topaz can be found in nature, but most is very light in color. In order to get the deep blue you often see, the gemstone must be irradiated and heat treated. Topaz can be found in everything from rings to necklaces to bracelets and earrings.
