You’ve just purchased some gorgeous pearls from the reputable jewelers at I.D. Jewelry, but now you’re not sure how to care for them. With a few easy steps, those pearls can retain their beauty for years to come. Pearls can often be more fragile than gemstones, therefore, it’s important to treat them with care. Pearls will stay cleaner if you put them on after you’ve applied any makeup or perfume. If you own pearl rings, always take the ring off before using any lotions or creams.
To clean pearls, you can use a soft lint-free cloth to wipe them after use. The cloth can be either dry or damp. If it is damp, allow the pearls to air dry before putting them away. If the pearls become dirty, use water and a very mild soap to clean them. Never use solutions that contain ammonia or harsh detergents. Don’t use any type of abrasive cleaners or cloths. They can wear away the nacre coating (what gives pearls their appearance). Then your pearls will be beautiful no more.
