Diamond District Jewelers, Reputable Jewelers, White Gold Diamond Engagement Rings and more…
Did you ever notice that after purchasing diamonds online that they look different from when you previously received them? No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. Diamonds actually have a little characteristic about them which makes them appear to change color. It’s called fluorescence. The diamond will “change” color when exposed to ultraviolet light. This can be good or bad depending on how you feel about your diamond being a slightly different color.
Not all diamonds flouresce. Diamond grading reports will inform if they do, what color they change to, and to what extent. Some flouresce more than others. Typical colors are blue, yellow, and white. But don’t get excited that your diamond might change completely to blue. The shift in color is subtle; it’s more a very slight shift in tone. Generally it’s not much of a problem unless there are other stones surrounding the diamond. Then it could throw the color scheme out of balance.
Does fluorescence affect the price of diamonds NYC? A yellow fluorescence can bring down the price quite a good deal since they are less desirable. However, a blue fluorescence will increase the price. Before making a purchase, ask the jeweler to see examples of fluorescence so you can determine if you find it appealing or not.
