How to Make a Diamond Look Larger
If only men had all the money in the world to purchase the largest and most exquisite white gold diamond engagement rings. But alas, most people have a budget. That doesn’t mean you can’t learn some tricks of the trade to make your lady’s diamond look larger than it really is.
- Purchase fancy diamond shapes. A fancy diamond will typically appear larger than round diamonds of equal weight. Elongated shapes especially, such as marquise, oval, and pear shaped.
- Pick a pave-set diamond ring. A pave setting looks like a continuous surface of diamonds, despite only being small diamonds next to each other. Since you can’t distinguish the individual stones, you will think the jewelry is larger than it is.
- Look at the illusion setting. This is another great option for settings. The diamond is mounted to a mirror-like plate before it’s set into the band. It will not only make it look larger, but with much more brilliance. The only downside is that it will be more difficult to repair.
- Think about diamond engagement rings with side stones. Similar to the effect of the pave setting, side stones will “enhance” the ring. The diamond won’t look any bigger but it will pop and shimmer even more.
